DAHLONEGA – Behind a second-half brace from
Joe McInnes, the University of North Georgia defeated Mount Olive, 3-1, at the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park. In their first matchup since 2008, North Georgia got its first win in the all-time series versus Trojans.
The win was head coach Pat Parris' 100th career victory with all his career wins coming at UNG.
A matchup between two reigning conference Goalkeepers of the Week lived up to its billing in the first half. Both teams had chances in the half, but
Hazel Ley and Axel Engren stood tall and kept both offenses at bay.
The Nighthawks continued their trend of offensive success in the second half, this time led by McInnes, who scored once in the 52nd minute and then again in the 62nd minute to give the Nighthawks a 2-0 lead.
Dawid Zajac tacked on UNG's third and final goal of the afternoon, following up his own shot to put the game in hand with 17 minutes left in the match.
A penalty in the 88th minute led to Mount Olive narrowing the gap to just a two-goal deficit, but time ran out on the Trojans, and UNG secured its first win at home this season.
