COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 7 University of North Georgia men's tennis team took care of business quickly in a 4-0 win over No. 66 Georgia College in the Peach Belt Tournament Quarterfinals Friday night at the Walden Tennis Complex.
The Nighthawks raced out to the 1-0 lead with a doubles clinic, winning the point in just 25 minutes.
Joaquin Benoit and
Ryan Gaskin won on the top line, 6-1, while
Cole Brainard and
Daniel Ostap took down the second line just moments later with a 6-1 win of their own.
From there, UNG put the match away with three straight set wins in singles play.
Giulio Sassi got it going with a 6-0, 6-0 win on the sixth line before Gaskin finished at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Benoit clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win on the top line to put the Nighthawks in the semifinal round.
North Georgia will take on top-ranked and second-seeded Columbus State tomorrow at 4 p.m. with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship match.
