DAHLONEGA - For the first time since the consolation round of the ITA Indoors back in February, the No. 5 University of North Georgia men's tennis team had a loss put into their record with a 4-1 league match dropped to No. 13 Flagler Friday afternoon.
The loss snaps an 11 match winning streak by UNG, dating all the way back to February 19 in a loss to then-No. 8 Indianapolis.
Flagler quickly took the doubles point, winning on the second and third lines before winning a 10-8 tiebreak on the top line to sweep the action.
From there, the Saints put the match away with three straight set wins at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 6 to win the match. UNG's point came from
Cole Brainard with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5, while
Daniel Ostap and
Ryan Gaskin were each in third sets when play was halted.
North Georgia will have to turn the page quickly as they take on top-ranked Columbus State Sunday afternoon on the road.
