COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 9 University of North Georgia softball team scored seven runs in the final two innings before holding off Columbus State in the bottom of the seventh to earn their first Peach Belt win of 2022 with a 10-8 win Sunday.
The Cougars jumped out in front with a grand slam in the first to take a 4-0 lead. After a
Madison Simmons homer in the top of the third, CSU answered with a solo homer of their own to push the lead back to 5-1.
Hannah Forehand cut into the Columbus State lead in the top of the fourth with a two run blast, but CSU responded in the bottom of the fifth with another solo homer to take a 6-3 lead.
North Georgia got the offense going in the sixth, using RBI singles from
Haley Cummings and
Jaycie Michael, both of which scored a pair of Nighthawks, to take the first lead of the day at 7-6. UNG scored three more in the seventh, one off a Cougar error and another on a two RBI single by
Olivia Sinquefield to extend the lead to 10-6. CSU got a two run homer in the seventh to trim the lead down, but couldn't get closer.
