COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 9 University of North Georgia dropped its Peach Belt opening games Saturday to Columbus State.
GAME 1 - CSU 5, UNG 4
North Georgia got on the scoreboard first in the third, plating a pair off a
Jolie Lester RBI double before a
Haley Cummings RBI single later in the inning. The Cougars answered in the fourth, scoring a run off a double before cutting the lead to a single run in the sixth on a solo homer.
Columbus State took the lead later in the sixth on a two run homer, but North Georgia tied the game up in the seventh on a
Madison Simmons solo bomb. With the score tied at 4-4, the Cougars found a way to score a run in the seventh to walk off the first game.
GAME 2 - CSU 8, UNG 3
The Cougars wasted no time jumping out in front, getting a RBI single in the first before capping the inning with a grand slam to take a 5-0 lead. CSU put up another run in the second before North Georgia finally scratched the scoreboard in the third on a
Madi Perry RBI single. The Nighthawks continued to claw back in the fifth, scoring runs on a
Mariah Wicker double and a
Hannah Forehand sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 6-3.
Columbus State got runs back in the fifth on a double and in the sixth off a solo homer to get to the final score.
