GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 14 University of North Georgia women's tennis team took down Tusculum Friday afternoon, 5-2.
Johanna Lippert and
Cibeles Zuddy took down the first doubles match, 6-2, but the Pioneers captured the remaining two to claim the point and take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Vaishali Jorge quickly put the Nighthawks at a 1-1 tie with a 6-2, 6-0 win on the top singles line.
After Lippert and
Anna Markvartova pushed the UNG lead out to 3-1 with straight set wins, the Pioneers won a three-set match on the fifth line to trim into the lead. North Georgia would not be denied, however, as Claudelle Labonte Frey won on the fourth line, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the match. Rafaella Villanueva won at No. 6 in straight sets to get to the final score.
North Georgia will return home on Friday, April 1, to take on Young Harris. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
