DAHLONEGA - The No. 18 University of North Georgia women's tennis team defeated Anderson Wednesday afternoon, 4-3, in the home opener for the Nighthawks.
North Georgia was dominant in doubles play with a 6-1 win from
Anna Markvartova and Rafaella Villanueva at No. 2 and a 6-2 win at No. 3 for
Johanna Lippert and
Svetlana Teterina. When the doubles point was clinched,
Vaishali Jorge and Claudelle Labonté Frey were ahead, 5-1.
Anderson stormed back in the singles play, claiming three set wins on the top two lines as well as a 6-2, 6-3 win on the fourth line, but the Nighthawks got straight set wins by Lippert and Labonté Frey before
Cibeles Zuddy claimed a three set win to give UNG the match.
North Georgia will take to the courts again Friday afternoon at Valdosta State with first serve set for 2 p.m.
