KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 10 University of North Georgia men's tennis team claimed their first victory of 2022 in their first attempt as they took down Carson-Newman, 4-3, Sunday afternoon.
The Nighthawks took the early advantage in doubles play as
Daniel Ostap and
Cole Brainard claimed a 6-4 win on the third line. After the Eagles took the second line, 7-6,
Joaquin Benoit and
Zach Waldow won the doubles point in a 7-6 match on the top line.
The Eagles tied the match at 1-1 with a quick straight set win at No. 6 singles, but North Georgia quickly retook the lead as
Ryan Gaskin won at No. 2, 7-6, 6-3. Brainard extended the lead to 3-1 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 come from behind win at No. 4 before Benoit clinched the match from the top line with a 6-3, 7-6 win.
North Georgia will next be in action Wednesday as they play host to Anderson. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
