INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 11 University of North Georgia men's tennis team fell in the opening round of the ITA Men's National Team Indoor Championship to top-ranked and second-seeded Columbus State Friday, 4-0.
The Nighthawks made the Cougars earn the doubles point, splitting the first two matches to finish.
Ryan Gaskin and
Cole Brainard claimed a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, but Columbus State did enough to win in the other two matches to earn the first point.
From there, Columbus State won on the first, fourth and fifth singles lines to earn the win. At the time that the match was called, UNG had a one set lead in the other three matches with
Giulio Sassi two games away from clinching on the sixth line.
North Georgia will now take on No. 8 UIndy tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. The host Greyhounds lost a 4-3 decision to Saint Leo in the opening round Friday.
