No. 14 North Georgia Rallies Past Lander for Top-25 Win, 4-3

DAHLONEGA – The No. 14 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team overcame an early deficit with a strong showing in singles play to defeat Lander 4-, in Peach Belt Conference action Friday at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.

Lander claimed the doubles point, taking wins at No. 1 and No. 3, despite a dominant 6-0 victory from North Georgia's duo of Janos Varga and Pedro Liborio at No. 2 doubles.

Trailing 1-0, the Nighthawks responded in singles, winning four of six matches to secure the comeback victory.

Joao Luis Silva evened the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles before Ben Brandl followed with a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set victory at No. 4 to give North Georgia its first lead of the day. After Lander picked up a point at No. 5, Franco Rebora pushed the Nighthawks closer to the win with a three-set victory at No. 6.

At No. 3, Marcos Castellanos delivered the clincher, edging Anton Krondell 7-6, 6-4 to seal the 4-3 triumph for North Georgia.

Pedro Liborio battled in a marquee matchup at No. 1 singles but fell in a tightly contested three-set match to No. 21 Harry Pugh, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7).

North Georgia returns to action April 6 with a nonconference matchup against West Florida Argonauts in Columbus, Georgia.
