DAHLONEGA - The fifth ranked University of North Georgia softball team ended the Captain D's Surf 'n Turf Classic with a pair of wins over Florida Southern Sunday.
GAME 1 - #5 UNG 10, FSC 2
North Georgia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third, starting with a three run bomb from
Olivia Sinquefield. Three batters later,
Georgia Blair brought home
Gracie Mixson on a RBI single to get the four run cushion.
After a bases loaded walk in the fourth extended the lead, the Nighthawks used good base running to push two more across in the fifth.
Ashley Garrison was responsible for both Nighthawk runs in the sixth, scoring
Mallory Parker off a single before scoring herself on a passed ball that made the score 9-0.
FSC scored twice in the sixth to prevent the run-rule, but North Georgia got one of them back in the seventh with a bases loaded walk.
Tybee Denton (5-0) got the win, going five innings and fanning 10.
GAME 2 - #5 UNG 8, FSC 0 (6 inn.)
North Georgia again jumped out to a quick start, scoring four times in the first. UNG loaded the bases, leading to a Mixson single, a
Madison Simmons sac fly, a Parker single and a
Marley Holmes sac fly that gave the Nighthawks the early lead.
UNG scored again in the second off a
Jolie Lester triple that pushed the lead to 5-0. All was quiet until the sixth inning when
Madi Perry tripled to right field, scoring two before an overthrow brought her home to end the game via run-rule.
