LEXINGTON, Va. – The University of North Georgia rifle team defeated Virginia Military Institute in their opening match of the season. UNG broke three school records on their way to victory.
North Georgia finished with a score of 2286 in smallbore and 2356 in air rifle, totaling an aggregate score of 4642. The 2356 team air rifle score and 4642 team aggregate score are the highest scores in each category in program history.
Freshman
Maya Cameron led the way with a score of 580 in smallbore and 591 in air rifle, Cameron's individual aggregate score of 1171 is the school record, and both scores in Smallbore and Air Rifle set her own personal record.
Elysa Walter,
Dawson Kissik and
Jaden-Ann Fraser rounded out the top four finishers in the match and helped secure the victory for the Nighthawks.
Next Up
North Georgia will return to the state of Georgia and face Georgia Southern in their next match. The 2021 Southern Conference runner-ups fell to Georgia Southern in their opening match last season.
