STATESBORO, Ga. - The No. 18 University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team finished runner-up at the SoCon Championship, posting an aggregate score of 4,658 to place second behind host No. 6 Georgia Southern.
The Nighthawks opened the championship Friday with the smallbore discipline, totaling 2,304 as a team. Corbin Jockers led UNG with a 581, recording 31 inner 10s, while Brianna Walter followed with a 579, also tallying 31 inner 10s. Abby Swain and Courtney Allison each added scores of 572, with Ian Lyons contributing a 570.
North Georgia entered Saturday's air rifle competition 41 points back of Georgia Southern.
UNG finished second in air rifle with a team score of 2,354. Swain paced the Nighthawks with a 594, earning a silver medal in the discipline. Jockers followed with a 590, Allison posted a 588, Walter added a 582 and Wyatt Hicks rounded out the scoring with a 577.
With the two-day total, the Nighthawks secured second place overall in the championship standings.
North Georgia now turns its attention to the NCAA Qualifier in South Carolina on Feb. 21.
