CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 18 University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team posted the top aggregate score Saturday, defeating The Citadel and Wofford in an NCAA Qualifier behind strong performances across both disciplines.
North Georgia recorded a team score of 4,670, combining a 2,312 in smallbore and a 2,358 in air rifle to finish ahead of The Citadel (4,602) and Wofford (4,570).
The Nighthawks set the tone in smallbore, where Brianna Walter led the squad with a 584, followed by Courtney Allison's personal-best 579. Ian Lyons and Corbin Jockers each added scores of 575 and 574 respectively as North Georgia secured a decisive advantage early in the match. Walter and Allison finished as the top two individuals in the smallbore standings.
North Georgia carried that momentum into air rifle competition, led by Abby Swain's match-best score of 594 to pace the entire qualifier field. Allison added a 592, while Lyons recorded a personal-best 587 and Walter contributed a 585 to round out the scoring four.
Allison, Walter, Swain and Lyons each finished among the top five overall competitors in aggregate scoring, highlighting a balanced performance that propelled the Nighthawks to the team victory.
