TOCCOA, Ga. – The fourth-ranked University of North Georgia men's golf team is in second place out of 16 teams after the first round of the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate. The Nighthawks shot a total score of 291 (+3), and
Evan Thompson led the charge for UNG, shooting a 71 (-1) and sitting in a tie for fourth.
Hughes Threlkeld shot a 72 (E) and sits in a tie for sixth with ten other golfers.
Noah Zediker and
Ryan Hogan both follow, shooting a 74 (+2), and sit tied for 20th on the leaderboard.
North Georgia trails clubhouse leader No. 7 Anderson by seven strokes. Anderson is led by Reece Coleman, who leads the individual field after a first-round 67 (-5).
The second round was halted due to darkness with the field scheduled to complete the second and third rounds tomorrow morning.
The 54-hole, two-day event features a par-72, 7,513-yard layout at the Currahee Golf Course. Nearly every team in the 15-team field is receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Eight of the top 16 squads in the nation, including half of the top 10 teams in the nation are participating in the tournament.
