BLUFFTON S.C. – The University of North Georgia women's soccer team defeated USC Beaufort in the first matchup against the Sand Sharks. North Georgia used an onslaught of shots and elite defensive play to win 3-0 in their road Peach Belt Conference matchup.
The Nighthawks kept up the pace after a scoreless first half as
Nikki Gomez controlled the middle of the field and helped the North Georgia defense hold USCB to just two shots.
Michelle LaPenta kicked off the scoring for UNG in the 46th minute to take the 1-0 lead. She knocked home a rebound off a Nighthawk corner kick to open the scoring.
In the 69th minute,
Maysoon El-Shami scored her third goal in four games, getting an assist from
Abbie Crane. El-Shami would assist on the match's third and final goal, sending a cross to
Megan DuMond, who placed her header past the goalkeeper in the 76th minute.
The Nighthawks move to 9-2-3 and continue their six-match unbeaten streak.
