Lopez Golden Goal Pushes Men’s Soccer Past Clayton State

DAHLONEGA - With fractions of a second left in the first overtime period, University of North Georgia men's soccer player Kevin Lopez headed home the game's only goal to give the Nighthawks a 1-0 win over Clayton State Monday afternoon.
 
Neither team could break through in regulation, forcing the game into extra time. From there, North Georgia pushed forward, earning a free kick from 45 yards out with six seconds left.
 
Benjamin Elgueta sent the free kick into the box where Michael Walsh headed it across frame to a wide open Lopez for the game winner.
 
NOTES
- The Nighthawks earned their first win of the season and their first overtime win since September 15, 2018, a 2-1 win over Montevallo.
 
- Garrett Liles earned his first collegiate clean sheet in his first start, turning away the only three shots Clayton State put on target.
 
NEXT UP
North Georgia travels to Flagler on Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
