STATESBORO, Ga. - The No. 18 University of North Georgia rifle team fell just short in the Georgia State Championships Saturday as No. 17 Georgia Southern captured their second straight state crown. The Nighthawks defeated Georgia Military on the day.
Kevin Vaughn was the top shooter on the day for UNG, firing an aggregate score of 1,141, including 562 in smallbore and 579 in air rifle.
Dawson Kissik was next on the leaderboard for North Georgia, two points behind Vaughn after finishing as the top Nighthawk in smallbore with a 564 score. The smallbore score for Kissik had all six strings score 90 or more.
Alyssa Kiser was the top Nighthawk in air rifle, carding a 580 in the discipline with all strings scoring a 95 or better.
Georgia Southern finished the day with a total aggregate score of 4,576 with UNG in second at 4,548. Georgia Military had a 4,160.
North Georgia will next be in action at VMI next weekend in a non-conference meet.
