DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia men's soccer team fell in the final game of the regular season to USC Aiken, 2-1, on a cold and rainy night at the UNG Soccer Complex at Lynn Cottrell Park.
After a scoreless first half, the Pacers struck first, taking advantage of a miscue in the back by UNG as Daniel Ailemen scored his first goal of the season, slipping it into the net near the far post in the 50th minute. Just 10 minutes later, North Georgia answered as
Michael Walsh headed home the equalizer off a corner from
Anton Madsen.
USC Aiken had the last laugh, earning their second win of the season with a 77th minute goal by Fabian Avila off a pass from Hippolyte Denis inside the 18.
NOTES
- With the loss, North Georgia remains in the sixth seed in next week's Peach Belt Tournament. It's the 14th time UNG has qualified for the conference tournament.
- The Nighthawks took 16 shots with seven on target. USCA had seven shots with three on goal.
- The loss snaps an eight game winning streak for UNG in the all-time series.
NEXT UP
North Georgia will open up the league tourney with a trip to Greenwood against third-seeded Lander on Saturday. The Bearcats earned the No. 3 seed after sweeping Flagler in the regular season. Kickoff time will be announced early next week.
