AMERICUS, Ga. - Despite a last second goal from
Michael Walsh to force extra time, the University of North Georgia men's soccer team fell in double overtime to Georgia Southwestern, 3-2, Saturday night.
North Georgia got on the board first in the seventh minute when
Donovan Odier scored his ninth goal of the season on a pass from
Gabriel Campora to take an early 1-0 lead. The Hurricanes answered in the 35th minute on the first of two Jack Malleret goals. Malleret scored his second just before halftime to give GSW a 2-1 lead into the break.
Neither team could break through as it looked like GSW would hold on for the win in regulation, but Walsh fired a shot toward goal from nearly 50 yards out with five seconds left that found the back of the net as time expired to force the overtime periods. Chris Salamatou scored the golden goal in the 105th minute on a rebound to give the home team the win.
