LEXINGTON, Va. - Kimberlee Nettles was the top shooter on the day, finishing 10 points clear of the field as the No. 17 University of North Georgia rifle team took down VMI Saturday, 4564-4438. VMI's women's only team finished with a score of 4351 to finish in third in the three-team event.
Nettles put up an aggregate score of 1153, finishing atop the standings in both disciplines. After putting up a 565 in smallbore, she fired a 588 in air rifle that saw the final five strings score 98 or 99.
Morgan Frank finished as the second best performer in the event, finishing with an 1143 aggregate score. Her smallbore score was just two points behind Nettles, shooting near perfect in the prone position. The freshman was also the only shooter to have a perfect 100 string, firing that in the fourth air rifle string.
Jaden Fraser and
Kevin Vaughn finished third and fourth, respectively, in the overall standings to push North Georgia to the win in the event.
The Nighthawks will be back in action against The Citadel on November 14.
