PALMYRA, Penn. - Tobin Sanctuary was fifth on the top shooter leaderboard as the No. 18 University of North Georgia rifle team finished second at the Palmyra Invitational Sunday. The Nighthawks defeated Georgia Southern while finishing behind No. 10 Alaska Fairbanks.
Sanctuary finished fourth in smallbore shooting and sixth in air rifle, firing a perfect 100 string in the first prone string in smallbore and two 99 strings, one in smallbore and one in air rifle.
Kimberlee Nettles was the top smallbore shooter for UNG, finishing third with a 572. Each string had a score of 92 or above, including a perfect 100 string in the prone position.
Kevin Vaughn was the best air rifle shooter for the Nighthawks, firing a 577 that had each of the six strings with a score of 94 or greater.
The Nighthawks will be back in action on Friday at Murray State. UNG will shoot with UAB and Murray State, while Kentucky, NC State, UT Martin, Memphis and Jacksonville State will all shoot in the event over the course of the weekend.
