DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia tennis teams hit the road to Florence, South Carolina, for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament this weekend with quarterfinal action starting on Friday.
Rankings: The women are currently ranked No. 16 in the nation.
Vaishali Jorge is the No. 27 singles player in the nation, while
Adrienne Bofinger is ranked No. 33. The men are now ranked No. 10 by the ITA with
Niklas Zielen and
Jess Jones ranked in both singles and doubles. Zielen is No. 52 in singles play, while Jones comes in at No. 56. The two are the No. 10 doubles duo in the nation.
Ryan Gaskin is also ranked in singles play at No. 67.
Last Week: The women went 1-1 in the final two matches of the regular season, falling to No. 18 Flagler before downing No. 36 USC Aiken, 6-1. The men went 0-2 in the final week of the regular season, losing to No. 3 Flagler and No. 8 USC Aiken
Francis Marion Women and PBC Quarterfinal Scout: Francis Marion's women are the No. 6 seed in the tournament, coming in at 14-7 on the year. The Nighthawks shut out the Patriots back on April 3. Other quarterfinal matches on the women's side include No. 1 Columbus State vs. No. 8 Lander; No. 4 USC Aiken vs. No. 5 Georgia College; and No. 2 Flagler vs. No. 7 Augusta.
Lander Men and PBC Quarterfinal Scout: Lander's men are No. 7 in the nation and are the No. 4 seed in the tournament after losing a three-way coin flip. The Bearcats are 16-4 on the year and beat UNG, 5-2, back on March 30. They have three singles players ranked in the top 75 nationally as well as the No. 3 doubles team in Division II. Other quarterfinal matches on the men's side include No. 1 Columbus State vs. No. 8 Francis Marion; No 2 USC Aiken vs. No. 7 Augusta; and No. 3 Flagler vs. No. 6 Georgia College.
All-Conference: Niklas Zielen was the only men's tennis player to earn an All-Conference nod, earning second team honors in singles play. On the women's side,
Adrienne Bofinger was a first team singles player, while
Vaishali Jorge and
Holly Bennett earned first team doubles honors. Jorge was a second team singles player while Bofinger and
Emma Etelalahti earned second team doubles honors.
