DAHLONEGA - The No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team closed out its home schedule in dominant fashion, sweeping Lander in Peach Belt Conference action on Senior Day.
The Nighthawks set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins at the top and bottom spots.
At No. 3, Victoria Niox-Chateau and Sofia Giraldo cruised to a 6-1 victory, while the No. 1 duo of Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Lander's Evelyn Altamaier and Maria Zarza.
The No. 2 match featuring Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes was left unfinished with the pair leading 5-4.
North Georgia carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches, five of six in straight sets to complete the sweep. Giraldo earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3, and Niox-Chateau followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Stokusova secured the overall match for the Nighthawks with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2. Goerdes added a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 4, while Bush picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5.
At the top singles spot, Opolska dropped the opening set 3-6 but responded in dominant fashion, winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-1 to cap the sweep.
North Georgia returns to action April 14 with a PBC matchup at Columbus State.
