PREVIEW: Tennis Set to Open 2019 Season at Home

DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia tennis teams look to start the 2019 portion of the season off on the right foot with two matches each. Both teams will take on Lenoir-Rhyne to open play before each battling a different opponent early in the week.

Team Rankings: The women are currently ranked No. 12 in the nation after making a run to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 a year ago.

Individual Rankings: Fresh off finishing third in the ITA Cup, Vaishali Jorge is ranked as the No. 3 singles player in Division II and the top player in the southeast region. Paired with Holly Bennett, they are the No. 18 doubles duo in the nation and No. 3 in the region. On the men's side, Ryan Gaskin is the No. 10 singles player in the southeast region, while Jess Jones and Niklas Zielen are the No. 8 doubles duo in the region.

Men's Opponents: UNG's men are 2-1 against Lenoir-Rhyne all-time, winning each of the previous two meetings. The Bears are 2-0 on the year before a Friday afternoon matchup at Young Harris. Belmont Abbey is 2-0 on the season headed into the opening weekend of action. The Nighthawk men have never lost to the Crusaders in three tries, all of which were away from Dahlonega.

Women's Opponents: UNG's women are 3-0 against L-R in the all-time series, winning the last two without conceding a match. The Bears are 1-0 headed into Friday's matchup at YHC. Brenau will open their season with Monday's matchup against North Georgia. The Nighthawks trail all-time, 10-3, to the Tigers, but have won three of the last four, including two straight.
