HICKORY, N.C. - Taylor Malasek scored in the ninth minute, and the back line made it hold up as the No. 18 University of North Georgia women's soccer team advanced on in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional with a 1-0 win over Mount Olive Friday afternoon.
Payton Bisso sent a cross in to
Rosie Embley, who found just enough of a touch to get to a wide open Malasek alone in the 18. The junior calmly put the shot away above the Trojan keeper to give UNG all it needed for the win.
NOTES
- The Nighthawks have never lost an opening round game in the NCAA tournament in its six appearances.
- Previously unbeaten, the Trojans were only able to get off 10 shots total with
Morgan Ramby saving the only four on target.
- Seventh-seeded Wingate upset second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne in the second game of the day, 4-0.
NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will battle Wingate on Sunday at 2 p.m. to determine who moves on to the regional final in two weeks.
