EVANS, Ga. - Taylor Malasek found an equalizer early in the second half as the No. 18 University of North Georgia women's soccer team drew with Clayton State, 1-1, Friday in the Peach Belt Conference semifinals. The Lakers advanced to the championship game on penalties, 5-4.
Isabel Massa found the opening goal of the match in the 11th minute, hitting a shot from 25 yards out into the net to put the Lakers up, 1-0. Malasek answered in the 49th minute, curling a shot inside the near post at the upper 90 to even the score.
After neither team could find a winner, the two sides went to a PK shootout to decide the team advancing in the tournament. CSU had the first shot saved by
Morgan Ramby, but the Lakers did not miss again and had their keeper make two saves to clinch a spot in the championship match.
NOTES
- UNG was held to just seven shots in the match. The Nighthawks did not take a shot after regulation ended.
- In the other semifinal, Flagler defeated Columbus State, 1-0, to secure a spot in the league championship.
