DAHLONEGA - After going down a man just seconds into overtime, the University of North Georgia men's soccer team pressed forward and
Gabriel Garcia nailed the game winning goal to push the Nighthawks past Montevallo, 2-1, Saturday afternoon.
North Georgia struck first as
Adam Farrell notched his fourth penalty kick of the season in the seventh minute to put UNG on top, 1-0. Montevallo struck back in the 23rd minute as Liam Moore scored from just outside the box to tie the match up.
Both teams had great chances at goal in the second half, but the two keepers stood tall to force the game into overtime. The Nighthawks were quickly put down a man as a red card was issued just 35 seconds into the first extra period.
Down to 10 men, the Nighthawks put together another chance in the 94th minute and Garcia struck it low and right of the keeper to give UNG their third straight win.
NOTES
- Farrell's PK puts him atop the career record book for penalties made in a career. He is now 7-for-7 in his career, passing Daniel Bowlt's mark of 6-for-6.
