DAHLONEGA - Renee VanHorn and
Taylor Malasek each scored as the No. 25 University of North Georgia women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win Wednesday night at the UNG Soccer Complex over Young Harris.
The match was scoreless until
Abbie Crane got in behind the YHC back line and found VanHorn at the near post. VanHorn redirected the ball across the net and past the Mountain Lion goalie to put UNG up, 1-0.
Malasek got in the scoring column in the 63rd minute after taking a pass from VanHorn and chipping the ball over the top of the YHC keeper to push the match to its final score.
The Mountain Lions put pressure on the Nighthawk defense late, but UNG stood strong and earned their third clean sheet of the season.
NOTES
- With the win, North Georgia claimed its 10th straight season with double digit wins. The Nighthawks also ensured that they would have a winning record overall and in league play for the 11th consecutive year.
- Earlier Wednesday, the Nighthawks were named the No. 2 team in the Southeast Region in the first NCAA regional ranking.
- UNG outshot YHC, 24-8, in the contest.
Rosie Embley took the most shots for the Nighthawks, firing six shots in the match.
