MORROW, Ga. - Renee VanHorn netted her 11th goal of the year, but the No. 13 University of North Georgia women's soccer team could not find a second goal as they drew with Clayton State Monday night, 1-1.
VanHorn took advantage of a Laker handball in the box, slotting home a penalty kick to give UNG a 1-0 lead. The Nighthawks held onto that lead into the halftime break.
Just one minute after having a player sent off due to yellow cards, the Lakers tied the match up when Isabel Massa scored off a pass from Ann-Cathrin Zabel to tie the match. North Georgia had a number of opportunities to regain the lead, but CSU's Hannah Richards had a career-high 12 saves to keep the Lakers level throughout the remainder of regulation and the two overtime periods.
NOTES
- VanHorn is now a perfect 5-for-5 from the penalty spot in her career.
- Tonight's 1-1 draw is the first time since 2016 that UNG has tied in a match in which the Nighthawks scored. Both draws in 2017 were by scores of 0-0.
