GREENWOOD, S.C. - Matt Sharman made five saves in the match, but No. 10 Lander used a high-quantity offense to beat the University of North Georgia men's soccer team, 3-0, Saturday night.
Lander got on the board in the seventh minute as Kyle Ferguson scored his second goal of the year to take a 1-0 lead. North Georgia held the Bearcats at bay until near the end of the half when they struck again on a Michael Leach goal in the 43rd minute to double the lead going into halftime.
LU scored the final goal in the 69th minute when Jamie North took it himself and beat Sharman into the net. UNG put two shots on frame after that, but Lander's Jacob Withers stood strong to preserve the clean sheet.
NOTES
- Lander took 23 shots compared to just nine for UNG. That is the first time in nearly a calendar year that the Nighthawks have been held to single digit shots.
- The Nighthawks fall to 1-4-0 on the road this season.
