CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Behind a stellar defensive effort, the University of North Georgia men's soccer team shut out Queens University of Charlotte, 1-0, Wednesday night at Dickson Field.
North Georgia and Queens combined for 12 shots in the first half, but only two of those were put on frame as both teams went into the break scoreless.
Alex Grant scored the game's lone goal off a through ball from
Rahmy Baky, slipping a shot past the keeper in the 76th minute to take the one-goal lead.
Queens took 17 shots in the contest, but the Nighthawk defense only allowed four shots on goal, all of which were saved by
Matt Sharman.
NOTES
- The Nighthawks improved to 2-1 with the win. They are off to their best start since 2010, a year that North Georgia started 4-0-3.
- The UNG defense played especially well against corner kicks, turning away 10 Royal corners in the match.
- North Georgia earned its first win in Charlotte in the three chances during the program's history. The Nighthawks are now 3-4 all-time against the Royals.
