DAHLONEGA - A late goal in the first half by Robert Labus gave Eckerd the lead that they never relinquished in a 3-0 win over the University of North Georgia men's soccer team Saturday in Dahlonega. North Georgia falls to 1-1 with the loss.
"I think the first 10 minutes we really exposed them," said head men's soccer coach Pat Parris. "We showed some inexperience today after that point in regards to the game."
North Georgia had an early opportunity nullified after
Alex Grant put the ball in the net but was called offside in the ninth minute. Both teams had other great opportunities in the first half on fouls in the box. Junior
Cade Minton made two big saves off a penalty kick attempt by the Tritons to keep the match scoreless through the first 30 minutes.
Eckerd was able to slip one through into the net in the 37th minute to take the 1-0 lead into the break. Labus found the net again in the 50th minute to double the lead before Juan Tejada scored the game's final goal in the 67th minute.
