No. 13 Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Lee, 4-3

CHATTANOOGA - After taking a 3-2 lead in the 73rd minute, Lee found the back of the net twice in 10 minutes to upset the No. 13 University of North Georgia women's soccer team, 4-3, on Friday evening.

North Georgia scored the lone goal of the first half when Renee VanHorn put home a penalty kick in the 16th minute to give the Nighthawks an early 1-0 lead.

Another penalty kick for UNG came just 45 seconds out of the halftime break, this time put in by freshman Taylor Malasek to double the North Georgia lead.

The Flames cut the lead in half in the 64th minute when Summer Lanter took a pass from Mia Hollingsworth and scored her first of the season. Eight minutes later, Lee knotted it up at 2-2 on a Devin Healy goal from 30 yards out.

Brynn Finneran quickly reclaimed the lead for UNG, earning her first goal of the season on a pass from Malasek to give the Nighthawks the 3-2 lead. The Flames, however, found two more goals and held on late despite pressure from the Nighthawk offense to earn the win.

NOTES
- The loss is just the third season-opening loss in the NCAA era for UNG. The most recent was in 2013 when Florida Tech defeated North Georgia, 3-0, in the opener.

- The Flames outshot UNG, 17-10, and 9-6 in shots on goal.
