INDIANAPOLIS - The University of North Georgia men's tennis team, ranked No. 13 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II poll, was selected for participation in the nine-team NCAA Division II Southeast Region as announced from the NCAA office on the men's tennis selection show Tuesday evening. The NCAA postseason appearance is the fifth in the last six years for the Nighthawks after registering the program's first in 2012.
The fourth seed at regionals matches a program-best for head coach
Kent Norsworthy's team.
The fourth-seeded Nighthawks will travel to Columbus, Ga. to take on fifth-seeded Flagler on Saturday, Apr. 29 at 1:00 p.m. Top-seeded and host Columbus State will entertain the winner of Friday's Queens/Barton match in the other contest at the John W. Walden CSU Tennis Complex.
Saturday's winners will meet on Sunday, April 30, at 1 p.m. for the right to advance to the Sweet 16 National Championships, May 10-13, in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The North Georgia/Flagler contest will be a rematch of last Friday's Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal match that the Saints won, 5-4, in dramatic fashion.
The Nighthawks won the regular-season meeting, 5-4, in St. Augustine, Fla.
North Georgia enters NCAA play with a 19-4 overall mark with the 19 victories setting a new school record for single season wins.
