ORLANDO – The No. 18 University of North Georgia men's tennis team rallied in singles to post a come-from-behind 6-3 win over Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona just outside Orlando.
The Warhawks jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles as the Nighthawks lone point came in the top flight where the 18
th-ranked tandem of
Niklas Zielen and
Alexander Reinauer secured an 8-4 win.
The Nighthawks regrouped to win five of six singles matches to secure the win.
No. 7 Zielen (No. 1), No. 16 Reinauer (No. 2) and
Mark Laishley (No. 6) fought back from first set deficits to put three-set wins on the board, while
Andre Canino (No. 3) and
Lukas Moritzen (No. 5) added straight set wins for UNG.
Laishley secured his victory with a dramatic tiebreaker win in the third set.
The non-conference win pushes UNG over double figures in the win column with a 10-1 overall mark. The Warhawks even their overall record at 5-5.
North Georgia returns to action Thursday (Mar. 16) against Bluefield State with first serves going up at 8:00 a.m.
