SUMTER, S.C. - Felicia Baratta and
Holly Bennett made history Saturday as the first University of North Georgia tennis players to earn a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Nationals after their doubles championship at Regionals.
Baratta and Bennett won all five of their doubles matches, knocking off the top-seeded team from Queens in the quarterfinals in the process. The duo will continue on to the ITA National Championships in Rome, Georgia, October 11-15.
Mark Laishley also won his draw at ITA Regionals, winning the men's singles B draw. Laishley had to go through teammate
Zack Waldow in the semifinals of the draw to earn his spot in the finals in a match that him win in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Ryan Gaskin also earned a spot in the quarterfinals of the men's A draw, defeating second-seeded Jose Navarro of Newberry in the Round of 16.
The Nighthawks will next take part in the Mercer Invitational, starting on Friday, October 6.
