Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | UNG Athletic Communications

No. 8 Women’s Soccer Cruises Past Francis Marion, 4-0

FLORENCE, S.C. | The No. 8 University of North Georgia women's soccer team cruised past Francis Marion, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Hartzler Field. The Nighthawks move to 4-1-1 on the season with a 2-1 mark in the Peach Belt Conference.
 
Daizah Patterson found her first career goal as a Nighthawk off a header pass from Renee VanHorn from 11 yards out in the 38th minute, giving UNG the 1-0 it would take into halftime.
 
North Georgia netted three second half goals with Jacy Ramey putting her fourth goal of the year in the back of the net in the 64th. Renee VanHorn headed in the third goal of the game off Brynn Finneran in the 86th minute. Veronica Cappas finished off the frenzy in the final minute of the game following her shot that bounced off the crossbar; Cappas used her head to put the ball in goal for her first collegiate goal.
 
NOTES
- UNG utilized all three goalkeepers in the contest with Sarah Allen (1-0-0) getting the official decision with the majority of minutes in goal.
 
- The matchup was the first between the two schools as FMU's women's soccer program is in its first season transitioning back to the Division II level after playing as a Division I independent in previous years.
 
STAT OF THE DAY
0 – The Nighthawks did not allow a single shot on goal in the game, just allowing one shot overall on the night. The last time UNG held an opponent without a shot on goal was last year's season opener at Valdosta State.
 
NEXT UP
North Georgia returns home for a Wednesday night matchup against rival-Young Harris. Kickoff for the Battle of Blood Mountain match is set for 5 p.m. The match will feature the annual presentation of the Battle of Blood Mountain trophy after UNG's third straight win in the year-long competition in 2015-16.
