No. 22 Women's Soccer Hands Young Harris Their First Loss of the Year, 2-1

DAHLONEGA I The No. 22 University of North Georgia women's soccer erased a first-half deficit to defeated the previously unbeaten Young Harris in a hard fought, 2-1 victory, Wednesday evening at the UNG Soccer Complex in Dahlonega.  With the win the Nighthawks improve to 5-1-1 and 3-1 in the Peach Belt Conference on the season.
 
Young Harris struck first in the 23rd minute when a free kick taken from 30 yards out by Laisy Scardazzi floated past North Georgia goalkeeper Kaitlyn Siberski who struggled finding the ball against the setting sun.
 
North Georgia scored the equalizer in the 61st when Rosie Embley scored off a long cross in from Rachel VanHorn followed by a quick pass in the box from Mollie Arrendale.
 
Michaela Sundstrom scored the game-winning goal for the Nighthawks in the 65th winning a ball from a YHC defender at the top of the box and delivering a powerful shot just inside the post.
 
NOTES
- Kaitlyn Siberski (1-1-1) came away with her first winning decision in this, her third complete game.
 
- Sophia Matonak claimed eight of North Georgia's shots on the night, this is Matonak's third showing with 8 shots, the last two coming against Queens (N.C.) and Armstrong State both in 2014.
 
- With the victory North Georgia improves to 6-0 all-time against Young Harris in the NCAA era.
 
STAT OF THE DAY
29 -The Nighthawks remained on the offensive for a majority of the game with a total of 29 shots, 21 of those coming in the second half.

The Nighthawks will travel to St. Augustine, Florida on Saturday, Oct. 1 to take on Flagler at 3:30 p.m.
