AUGUSTA, Ga. | The University of North Georgia tennis teams split a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches on Tuesday, as the UNG women downed 36th-ranked Augusta University 6-3, but the Nighthawk men came up on the short end of a 5-4 decision.

In the women's match, North Georgia took two of three doubles lines as the Nighthawks posted matching 8-5 victories in the top two matches.

UNG went on to win four of six doubles matches highlighted by No. 3 Sandra Ungricht and No. 6 Lexa Loden each rallying from dropping the first set to post three-set wins for UNG.

North Georgia improves to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in PBC play while Augusta falls to 9-2, 3-2 PBC.

The men's match featured a showdown between a pair of top-50 teams with the Nighthawks at No. 20 and Augusta ranked No. 44 in the most recent NCAA Division II rankings.
 
North Georgia led 2-1 heading into singles after the host Jaguars pulled out the 9-8 (6) tiebreaker win at No. 2 doubles.

Augusta (7-2, 1-2 PBC) rallied in singles posting four three-set victories.  The loss is the first of the season for the Nighthawks as they fall to 6-1 overall and an even 1-1 in conference play.

North Georgia returns to the courts on Saturday (Mar. 5) as both teams entertain Columbus State with first serves scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.
