UNG Softball Advances To PBC Final With 8-2 Win Over GRU; Title Game Moved To Sunday

Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The top-seeded University of North Georgia's Peach Belt Conference softball tournament championship game with second-seeded Georgia College was halted in the top of the second inning due to a strong thunderstorm.  The storm dumped enough water on the field to render the playing surface unsafe for the rest of the night.

The PBC Championship game will resume on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

North Georgia (43-7) advanced to the title game with an 8-2 semifinal win over fourth-seeded Georgia Regents in the morning's first semifinal.

After Courtney Poole gave up a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Nighthawks responded with seven runs in the bottom of the frame to put the game out of reach.  After allowing four hits in the first frame, the junior pitcher settled in to shut down the Jaguar bats for the remainder of the contest.

Meagan May collected a team-best three hits to lead the offense while Ansley Phillips and Taylor Anne Merritt added multiple-hit games for UNG.

Poole (36-3) rebounded to earn her 36th victory of the season, scattering six hits while striking out three.

North Georgia is in search of its fifth PBC Tournament title.
