No. 30 UNG Men's Tennis Team Cages No. 21 Jaguars 6-3 In Home Opener

DAHLONEGA | After playing the first six matches of the season on the road, the University of North Georgia tennis teams split a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches with Georgia Regents on Saturday afternoon in the teams' home openers at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.  The No. 30 Nighthawk men upended the 21st-ranked Jaguars, 6-3, while the GRU women claimed a 7-2 win over the Nighthawks in the women's match.

The men's victory over the Jaguars snapped a seven-match winning streak for GRU.

The Nighthawks got off to a fast start winning all three doubles matches highlighted by the top line team of Matheus Guida and Mateus Camasmie rallying from a late deficit to claim a 9-8 tiebreaker win. 

Straight set singles victories by Philipp Mueller (No. 2), Julian Schoeller (No. 4) and Alexander Reinauer (No. 5) clinched the team win for North Georgia.

Women's Match:  Georgia Regents 7, North Georgia 2
The Nighthawks first doubles team of Felicia Baratta and Rita Kaldawi took the opening doubles win over Monica Gonzalez and Gisela Font, 9-7, but the visiting Jaguars rallied to win the other two matches.

Baratta stayed hot for UNG and won the number one singles match in three sets. GRU rallied in the next five singles match to win them all and seal a 7-2 victory on the road. Four of the last five singles matches went to three sets, but the Jags survived for the win.
