OXFORD, Miss. | The No. 20 University of North Georgia rifle team shot an aggregate score of 4543 to finish fourth out of six teams at the Ole Miss Invitational at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
The No. 5-ranked Racers of Murray State won the event with an aggregate score of 4676, edging out runner up Memphis by just eight points.
Andrew Abernathy led the way for the Nighthawks with a smallbore score of 565, which was just a point in front of teammate
Dakota Spivey.
Matt Settele added a score of 562.
In the air rifle portion of the competition,
Maggie Mason posted a team-best 578 while Settele recorded a 576.
Five different UNG shooters posted improved results from the team's initial competition highlighted by 14-point smallbore improvements by both
Brianna Shaw and
David Turner. Eight new personal records were also set by the Nighthawks led by a pair from Abernathy.
North Georgia returns to action on Oct. 17 at the Morehead State Invitational.
