DAHLONEGA | A pair of long range goals from
Amin El-Shami highlighted the University of North Georgia men's soccer team's 4-3 Peach Belt Conference win over USC Aiken on a blustery Saturday evening at the UNG Soccer Complex. With the win, the Nighthawks earn a trip to their 10
th consecutive PBC Tournament as the eighth seed.
The Pacers' Noel Mais opened the game's scoring with his 13
th goal of the season in the ninth minute. Less than a minute later, UNG's
Daniel Bowlt found the equalizer when the junior connected on a penalty kick after
Eric Carrion was fouled by USCA keeper Brandon Jarsoz.
El-Shami would provide the fireworks on a cold night in Dahlonega with a pair of long range goals in a seven minute span. The first came in the 23
rd minute when the junior blasted a 45 yard shot over Jarosz's head. The eventual game-winner came just seven minutes later when El-Shami connected on a 40-yard shot that leaked through the Pacer keeper's hands.
Mais trimmed the Nighthawk lead to 4-2 in the 70
th minute with a penalty kick goal, but Carrion would answer for North Georgia just seconds later with his seventh goal of the year.
USCA's Brett Smith tallied a goal in the 86
th minute to provide the game's final score, 4-3, but the Pacers could not find the equalizer.

Manuel Hernandez, the program's lone senior, was recognized in a pregame ceremony for Senior Day.
North Georgia (4-11-2, 3-5-1) will now travel to top-seeded Young Harris (No. 4, NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Divison II poll) on Tuesday November 4 at 7:00 p.m for a rematch of last season's PBC quarterfinal. USC Aiken (12-4-1, 6-3-0 PBC) will be the second seed and host seventh-seeded UNC Pembroke.
Tuesday's quarterfinals will be hosted by the higher-seeded team. The four winners of those games will travel to Evans, Ga., and Blanchard Woods Park for the semifinals Friday (Nov. 7) with the championship game set for Nov. 9. The UNG/YHC winner will face either No. 4 Clayton State or No. 5 Flagler in an 11 a.m. semifinal Friday (Nov. 7) on the main stadium field at Blanchard Woods Park. The championship match will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 9.
