GREENWOOD, South Carolina | The University of North Georgia men's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie with Lander (6-5-2, 2-4-2 Peach Belt) Wednesday evening at Van Taylor Stadium. North Georgia moves to 3-11-2 on the season with a 2-5-1 mark in Peach Belt play.
Â
After a relatively quiet first half, the Bobcats put four shots on frame in the second period but Nighthawk keeper
Victor Ohlin was there to collect each one and keep the game scoreless.
Â
UNG challenged frequently in the final period of extra time, putting four shots on goal and had another opportunity with
Luis Huertas on a breakaway in the 109th minute, but the shot went just wide of the goal.
Â
The point was a crucial one for the Nighthawks as it keeps hope alive for a UNG birth in the Peach Belt Tournament. North Georgia currently sits at ninth in the PBC just a point behind Lander. UNG would need a win Saturday paired with a Bearcats tie or loss against Francis Marion to claim the eight-seed in the PBC tournament and would play at Young Harris in the quarterfinal.
Â
The Nighthawks will wrap up the regular season hosting USC Aiken on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., and will feature a pregame ceremony honoring lone senior
Manuel Hernandez.
