MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of North Georgia men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Auburn Montgomery on Saturday (Mar. 11) as the women fell 4-3 in their match to open up a six-match road trip.
#17 Men's Tennis (5-2)
The Nighthawks fell in the doubles point but battled back, winning three of the first four singles flights to take a 3-2 lead heading into the final two flights.
Joaquin Benoit and
Cole Brainard won in straight sets after winning UNG's lone doubles match. Benoit won 6-3, 6-1, while Brainard finished with a 7-5, 6-2 in the #4 flight.
Daniel Ostap managed a come-from-behind victory in the #2 flight, dropping the first set 3-6, before outlasting Adrian Contreras of AUM (6-4) with a pair of 7-6 set victories.
Giulio Sassi rounded out the singles match victors, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 as the Nighthawks earned their fifth victory.
#6 Women's Tennis (7-2)
North Georgia fell short in doubles but took it to the wire, winning the first three singles flights, highlighted by
Johanna Lippert's 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 upset victory over the 28th-ranked player in NCAA Division II, Regina Urbiola.
AUM (7-3) took the next two flights, with the Warhawks completing the upset bid with a tiebreaker victory in the final set of the day.
Next Up
The Nighthawks move south to Mobile, Ala., for a matchup against Spring Hill College. The match against SHC will be the second match of a six-match road trip that features three matches in the next four days.
