How Sagrero got to UNG
Angel Sagrero lands in Dahlonega this season after transferring from nearby Division I Georgia Southern. However, Sagrero is not a typical transfer. He suited up as a freshman for the Eagles in 2022 but stepped away from collegiate soccer in the 2023 season, despite a solid freshman campaign. In his first year, Sagrero played in 13 games for the Eagles, starting 11 of them. The defender recorded a pair of assists and four shots in total in his opening season. Sagrero is also a former player of Johnson High School in Gainesville, Ga., of which UNG head coach Anel Lilic has drawn many of his players from. Sagrero helped the Knights win their first of back-to-back state championships with a 4-2 win in the 2022 5A State Championship over St. Puis X Catholic.
