Nighthawks Set to Host Fifth Annual Lake Lanier Collegiate Classic

9/20/2026 12:09:00 PM

DAHLONEGA – The No. 14 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's golf team returns to Dahlonega Monday to host the fifth annual Lake Lanier Collegiate Classic, but this year's tournament will feature a new home course as the Nighthawks take to Achasta Golf Club for the first time.

The move comes as North Georgia's typical home course, Chattahoochee Golf Club, undergoes construction. The Nighthawks will welcome a 15-team field to Achasta for the two-day tournament, which begins Monday, Sept. 21, with the first two rounds before the field returns Tuesday for the final round.

The tournament, formerly known as the Mizuno Intercollegiate, features seven Peach Belt Conference teams alongside North Georgia. Lander, USC Aiken, Columbus State, Erskine, USC Beaufort, Georgia College and Emmanuel join Carson-Newman, Anderson, Catawba, Lincoln Memorial, Union, Wingate and Lee in the field.

Half of the field (8) is ranked in the NCAA Division II Bushnell/Golf Week National Poll. No. 2 Lee, No. 5 Columbus State, No. 6 Wingate, No. 8 Lincoln Memorial and No. 9 Catawba all reside in the top-10.

North Georgia has finished runner-up in its home tournament each of the past three seasons, including a second-place finish in a 15-team field in 2025.

Individually, North Georgia's Colby Bennett shared the top spot on the leaderboard last season, tying Lander's Morgan Cain for medalist honors.

The Nighthawks will look to carry that recent success into a new setting as they make their first appearance at Achasta Golf Club as tournament hosts. Proud home of the Nighthawk golf program, Achasta Golf Club is a natural, classic Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course that is only two miles from the UNG campus. Achasta blends with the surroundings and is located in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains along the Chestatee River with the river coming into play on over half the holes. The course was named in 2020 as the #6 rated course in Golfweek's Best Courses You Can Play (Georgia) and has been home to UNG Golf since the programs started in 2009.

The tournament begins Monday with 36 holes before the final 18 holes are played Tuesday.
