DAHLONEGA – The No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's soccer team celebrated senior day with a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over USC Aiken Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Field.
The teams endured two weather delays as the match, originally scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff, did not conclude until after 8:30 p.m.
The Nighthawks (6-2, 2-1 PBC) controlled the match offensively, outshooting USC Aiken 21-3, including a 14-0 advantage in the first half. North Georgia also held a 12-1 edge in shots on goal and limited the Pacers to just one shot on target.
North Georgia opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Nina Lopez found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. Grace McGill provided the assist.
Lopez continued to create opportunities throughout the match, finishing with four shots, all of which were on goal.
The Nighthawks maintained their one-goal advantage through the majority of the second half before Blanca Cruz doubled the lead in the 84th minute with her fourth goal of the season.
The last time these teams met during the 2025 season, Lopez and Cruz were the goal scorers for the Nighthawks, with both players recording braces.
USC Aiken answered just over two minutes later when Greta Ohlwein scored in the 86th minute, but North Georgia's defense held the Pacers without another shot for the remainder of the match.
The Nighthawk backline played a key role in limiting USC Aiken's offensive opportunities, led by Briana Hill alongside Alli Treadwell and Hannah Montgomery. The group helped North Georgia hold USC Aiken without a shot on goal until the late Pacers' goal.
Saturday's match also marked senior day for McGill, Chloe Diaz and Lilyana Hernandez, who were recognized before kickoff.
North Georgia returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 23, traveling to Columbus State for a PBC matchup against the Cougars. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
