ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 2 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's soccer team battled Flagler through a back-and-forth Peach Belt Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-3 draw against the Saints.
The Nighthawks (5-0-4, 1-0-3 PBC) fell behind in the 28th minute before quickly responding with two goals in a three-minute span.
Flagler struck first when Filip Hornburg found the back of the net in the 28th minute. The Nighthawks answered just 90 seconds later, with Rhys Shirley scoring his third goal of the season off an assist from Pavle Radojkovic.
Just over a minute later, the Nighthawks took their first lead of the afternoon. Isaac Calderon scored his eighth goal of the season, combining with Shirley and Maxwell Mitchell to put North Georgia ahead 2-1 in the 31st minute.
The Saints responded with two goals in the final three minutes of the first half, taking a 3-2 lead into the break.
North Georgia wasted little time leveling the match after halftime. Rafael Kawata scored his second goal of the season in the 48th minute to bring the Nighthawks even at 3-3.
Neither team could find the go-ahead goal during the remainder of the match as the Nighthawks and Saints settled for the draw.
Flagler held a 14-11 advantage in shots, while UNG recorded six corner kicks to the Saints' three. The Nighthawks also the shot on goal advantage, with six to Flagler's five.
Calderon continues to lead the Nighthawks offensively with eight goals on the season, while Shirley has three goals and two assists.
North Georgia returns home Wednesday, Sept. 23, for another PBC matchup against Georgia Southwestern. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the UNG Soccer Field.
